Weekly counseling sessions are best for developing the trust and rapport needed as we build a therapeutic foundation and relationship. In session, I provide a safe space and will introduce new ideas and concepts to support you while you work towards your personal goals.
anxiety including separation anxiety, insomnia and physical complaints such as stomach aches or headaches
anger and irritability, feeling overwhelmed
depression including a sad mood, isolating from peers or family and avoiding activities or hobbies
low self esteem or feelings of hopelessness
grief and loss (after a break up, death)
the feelings related to parent separation or divorce (stress, abandonment)
inattention and impulsivity related to ADHD or ADD
difficulty concentrating, procrastination
the mood and behaviors after experiencing a trauma including, fear, being startled easily and avoiding places or people that remind you of the trauma
When working with adolescents and teens, I incorporate expressive art and play therapy techniques so that learning is fun and creative. Further, I believe the parent or caregiver's participation in the treatment is very important. My aim of treatment is to open the lines of communication between parent/child which helps to facilitate change.
I was trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and incorporate EMDR in sessions to work through trauma such as:
a car or other type of accident
anxiety including social anxiety or specific phobia (such as an animal phobia)
prior abuse (physical, emotional or sexual) or emotional neglect
EMDR has proven to be an effective treatment in reducing the symptoms connected to trauma (such as being startled easily, nervousness and difficulty concentrating).
